I know you all will find this hard to believe but I am a healthy 40+ year-old woman and I have never had a pedicure.
Actually, I don't think I knew what a pedicure was until I was in my mid-20's.
All 3 of my teenage girls have enjoyed getting their "tootsies" professionally pampered and my mother and grandmother have regularly been getting pedicures done for years. In fact, I may be the only female in the county over the age of 13 who has never gotten a pedicure.
Much of the time I haven't felt like my toes were in any condition to be touched, much less fancied up. When I am running a lot I tend to have blisters and calluses and I have even been known to lose a toenail or two. Now that would be a pleasant thing for the girl who is giving the pedicure. YUCK!
Then last year I discovered a perfect solution to a salon pedi. Are you ready for this? Press on toenails!! I know what you are thinking but they really did look great! I had more compliments than I could count. The only problem was that occasionally they would fall off ("has anyone seen Mommy's toenail?") and the "super glue" I used made my real nails weak and brittle. But boy they looked good while they lasted!
Now before you feel too sorry for me I have to tell you that I have had opportunities to indulge myself. I am still holding on to a gift card for a "day of pampering" at an Upscale Day Spa. I received it a couple of years ago for my birthday and just haven't found the right time to use it (I did check and it doesn't expire). Then this yearI got a pedicure gift certificate for Mother's Day.
I guess if there was ever an occasion for a pedicure (or manicure for that matter) it would be the She Speaks conference. I have invested in a plane ticket, new clothes and a haircut, why shouldn't all of me look the part? Besides it is too late to shed anymore pounds. I may not be able to fix my hips but I can treat my toes!
So with all of that said, last night I did get the "at home, 8 year-old version" of a pedicure. Unfortunately my pedicurist only had time to do one foot before her bedtime. She offered to do the "french look" but I kind of preferred the sassy pink/blue mix.
Since She Speaks requires "business casual" (and this is more along the lines of "casual casual") I may hit the salon for a "pro pedi" today, but I am definitely coming back to this salon when I return home!
What is the best job I've ever had?

Wow! What stylin' toes you have there! LOL!
Kelley-you are too funny!! I like the blue and the pink together. Thank of how special those toes would be for you as a sweet reminder of your daughters love. If anyone looks down at your toes you can brag on your daughter love and work!!
I'll be peaking at your toes when I meet you!!
Leaving this afternoon for North Caroline. I am so ready. My husband is not. I have the kids fanned out so he can have some quiet time and do some male bonding. He is not to sure he will be able to sleep-isn't that sweet..our poor guys!!

That's on my list for today too - not the professional pedicure, just painting my own. We can't be showing up at She Speaks with bare toenails!
I agree with Pamela on the pink/blue combo. And forgive me when I meet you if I look down to see your toes.

How cute! I hope you enjoy your pedi and the "She Speaks" conference. I really wanted to go,but I can't.
:( Maybe next year!
Have a blessed day!
"The only problem was that occasionally they would fall off ("has anyone seen Mommy's toenail?") and the "super glue" I used made my real nails weak and brittle."~
Kelley, you have me laughing out loud here in Crazyville!:)
I've only had one pedicure, and it was so humiliating....The girl was "clipping" my toenails, and they kept flying everywhere...She even had to pick several of them out of her shirt....because they kept landing in her cleavage.....I was so mortified1:(
So now, I just do them myself...and unfortunately, I don't do a great job, as you already know.
When you get back from the conference, maybe I could book an appointment with your daughter too...:)
Be sure you take a picture of your professional pedi.....We will all want to see it.
Thanks for starting my day off with giggles.
God Bless,
Amy:)
Hi Kelley,
You are not alone...I was in my late 30's before I had my first pedicure, but now I am hooked! My mom was was 62 when she went for the first time, she also now gets them regularly and she is 71. It is very pampering and a little indulgence definitely worth it..your pink and blue toes look pretty! Praying for you for this weekend at the conference, I have been reading your blog about your story about going and it is so cool! May you be blessed beyond measure and then bring it back home!
Hugs,
Kelly
Too funny, girl. Love the pink & blue! I'm 42 and I've only had 1 pedicure when my hubby sent me on a spa-for-a-day as an anniversary gift(back in 1994!) I do remember it as a wonderful and relaxing treat, and one I look forward to indulging in again...after the "college years." lol = )
Have a great time at She Speaks! Praying for all of you attending.
Too cute! Thoughts and prayers this weekend at SheSpeaks! God is amazing. Enjoy!
You are just precious Kelly!!
I can just F-E-E-L the excitement about this conference right through my computer screen.
Oh, what an exciting time ahead!!!
Cute tooe~chees!
Does she have an opening for today? Because I could use some blue and pink happy on my toes.
The blue and pink...fabulous! I brought home those fake toenails once in attempt to help, well, I just got laughed at. I posted recently about my feet and pedicure and my funky toes and there is no way those fake ones would work on my toes...oh well, I tried.
Enjoy your time!
As soon as you get a professional pedicure you will be hooked for life. A pedicure is the greatest thing on earth!
Oh, I love the blue/pink look! :) :) You are so funny! I didn't have my first pedicure until just a few years ago...and boy, do I love them! However, I can only afford them every so often as those things can get a little expensive.
Please go pamper yourself. You have the certificates, so use them!
Prayers and Blessings! Best wishes on your She Speaks debut!
Rebecca
Too cute Kelley. Boy, I'd be tempted to leave them, but I understand the "casual/casual" look!
I just finished doing my nails and toenails...but...note to self!!! Don't assume nail polish purchased two years ago is going to still be good after sitting in the cupboard all that time! I was hoping to wear a brownish colour on my toes to match my outfits - but I had to settle with a pinky/flesh shade as the brown one had congealed - YUCK!
See you tomorrow! Praying for you tons!
Love, hugs and prayers,
Joy
Wow, I just had MY first pedicure. I went back to my old home town and a couple of my girlfriends and we went to get pedicures together. It was great fun - especially to see my friend, who is very ticklish, almost fall out of her seat when her feet were being scrubbed! But I was wondering, if I go by myself to get a pedicure, how could it be as much fun?
Of course, after getting pedicures, we had to go shoe-shopping!
Love it! How nice to have a built-in pedicurist right in your own home. :) The pink and blue combo looks smashing.
Your daughter did a great job!
Praying you will have safe travels and a grand time at She Speaks. Looking forward to the upcoming post on all that happened for those of us who could not go. I hope to go next year!
Have fun and a Fabulous week!
I've never had a pedicure either so I must be the only other woman in the country over 13 who hasn't. I just can't stand people touching me, like my feet or massage, I don't know why, some kind of phoia I'm thinking.
I must be the only other woman over 13 who hasn't gotten a pediucre either.
I am literally laughing out loud because I use glue-on nails on my fingers whenever I have a special occasion. I'm a terrible nail-biter so it's the only way I can have nails. By the time I file these fake babies down to a conservative length and paint them with a sheer color, they look pretty awesome for having come out of a box. I didn't even realize you could get them for toes!
~Okay, I'm finding it "ODD" that just today, on my own blog I mentioned pedicures and manicures, and then later today READ ABOUT YOURS! HAAA
Just have to say, you have a really precious personality. I loved reading what you wrote about your speakers conference. When you wrote about having feelings like, "What am I doing here?" -- I related! I often wonder why God is putting me in certain situations...
Well, if i don't fire up the lawn mower, someone is going to come looking for me!
God bless you Kelley. I am really happy to have met you. For whatever it's worth, I want you to know something... I LIKE to hear what you have to "SAY!" You have a voice.... and I like to "read it."
