TSMS~~The voice of Truth

I am convinced that summer is Satan's favorite season. The weather is steamy! And learning schedules & bible studies are replaced with laziness or the hot pursuit of fun in the sun. Sunday church has even more competition; vacations, picnics, ball games, swimming pools..... Oh yeah, Satan must love the prospect of summer.

My CBS bible study ended a month ago and though I have tried to remain in the Word, I can feel myself becoming more vulnerable to attack.

Recently I have been hearing voices in my head. Voices I have heard before but were quieted with God's promises. They say things like: "You can't, You won't, You aren't"

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and the voices said to me:
"the good is behind you, your children are growing up and the sweetness is done, no more baby innocence only teenage angst...your youth is behind you, your body is wasting away.
All that is left for you now is to grow into an old and empty shell."

Now I know these are not the voices of truth. They are lies directly from the enemy himself. But that doesn't make them any less real or painful. It used to be that I would hear these things and believe them, because I didn't know any better. I lived in mourning of the moments that were passing in front of me because I had no idea what was lying ahead of me.

Satan may not have changed his method of attack on me over the years but I have learned a new way of battling him. (I think he knows this and it is one reason he attacked in the middle of the night, hoping to catch me off guard). Instead of listening and internalizing the enemies lies I grabbed the weapon I keep next to my bed (and in my car, in my gym bag, in my book bag....). My bible. God's word. The sword of the spirit. The truth.

"For I know the plans I have for you.....plans to give you hope and a future." Jer. 29:11

" being confident of this, that he
who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6

"do not fear or be dismayed....the battle is not yours but God's." 2 Chronicles 20:15b

"in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-9

"submit yourselves then to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." James 4:7

No, Satan hasn't changed throughout history but neither has my God. He is the same today as He was yesterday and will be tomorrow. Though I must fight through some battles in this world, he has won the ultimate victory. So when the Devil whispers lies that keep me awake at night I will choose to rest in God's never-changing truth no matter what season it is!!

Kelley...VOICE OF TRUTH...YOU are so right and this is an excellent post!

Do you mind if I share it with 1 Peter 3 Living Group and/or SUM
Spiritually Unequal Marriages...
they have been feeling under attack and perhaps this is why(in part)?
I will just post your site and hopefully they will visit!!!

I recall all too well looking for another church because of this...
Christians on vacation for the summer???no bible studies, no kid's
programs & too few people...was the excuse so I found a church where we never go on vacation and we pump it up with lots to do Churchwise in the summer, including picnics, etc.
but not forgetting to stay in the Word! This was so right on!

I'm sorry that you were being bombarded...I pray that you have overcome and risen with the POWER in your last words with SWORD in HAND...put on that FULL ARMOR & you enjoy the summer & bury Satan in the sand!!! Be blessed and bless those around you! Peggy

I love how you have instant access to your "Sword" in so many places, as well as hidden in your heart! The evil one will take every opportunity to pull us away from the Voice of Truth and at times the battle is strong. It's so true what you wrote - Satan hasn't changed, but neither has our God!

Sometimes, as Beth Moore writes, "The enemy is standing on our God given ground, daring us to take possession of it". Victory can always be ours because the battle is the Lords and we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us!

Listening to the Voice of Truth,
Joy

Don't drop your sword, Kelley!
I'm telling myself the same thing! He's been trying to get to me too! I think you are right about Summer. Let's all listen to the voice of Truth! I really needed to hear this today because Satan was trying to make me believe I can't trust God ... or other people in my life! I need more of His Spirit! Thanks for the encouragement today!
Much love,
Angie xoxo

Hi Kelly,
Peggy sent me over to check out your post. I can so relate to what you wrote! I'm determined to do two studies on my own this summer. Beth Moore's Stepping Up, and I'm reading The Lies Women Believe by Nancy DeMoss. Excellent book.

Love the Sanibel picture! I grew up in Sarasota and loved that area too. I haven't seen Sanibel since the hurricanes but is sure looks nice in your picture. God bless! :-)

That's right sister. Resist Satan and he will flee from thee! I have been hearing the same kind of voices...I got all caught up in a downward spiral the other evening and it was neat how the Word just popped into my head. I knew I was looking at the waves...and I was sinking. But lift my eyes to Jesus and I can walk on water! Praying for you!

I am so with you on this. I think for women who have a lot of children this is where Satan uses his weapons. I think he may believe that we have many children so that we will never feel the empty nest syndrome or we won't have time to think of growing old. I don't know if this is true but it may be one of the areas Satan uses.

Great song and video by the way.

Great post!

Those "other" voices are all lies, but they sure can rope me into a trap and depression many a time. I MUST stay in the Word. I don't know if it's Satan's summer season on Christians or what but I do know I've been struggling lately to stay in the Word and need to just set my face to dig in and trust the Lord to feed me what I need to hear: Truth!!!

thanks for this post

Kelley - great post and so much truth. Satan comes after me as I try and fall asleep and then many times throughout the night. I find my self just saying the name of Jesus outloud over and over and rebuking Satan. And of course, getting that sword out. I really am sick and tired of him. However, he (Satan) is not very creative and uses the same ways to get to me every time.

Love the song that went along with your post. Well done and keep up the fight.

Kelley-Satan is attacking because he knows something big is about to happen at She Speaks. The truth of who we are in Christ is what we have to cling to!! Jennifer Rothschild (Lessons I learned in the Dark) has written a book on this.."Self Talk, Soul Talk". I haven't yet read it as it just came this weekend. In looking it over, I think we all need to read it so we can better live in God's truth.

Looks like we are both having to stand on God's Word. His promises are what work best against Satan's attacks.
Looking forward to meeting you at She Speaks.

You are right on...our Pastor taught on the enemy this weekend. He is very alive and well, and if we don't think so, becoming mediocre, he'll leave us alone. But if we are on fire, living for Jesus Christ....he will come roaring. The victory has been won, and we have all that is needed to fight his fight.

Love to you and continue to stand on 2 Chronicles 20!

That's great Kelley!!
So real...love it!
Love how you grabbed your "weapon". What spiritual maturity to recognize that you are hearing lies from the enemy and not your Savior.
Keep moving forward my friend...He has greatness waiting for you!
Love you,
Lelia
