What a difference a day makes!

You know there is a reason that mental hospitals encourage their patients to garden and do craft projects. It's called therapy. And after my cranky mood yesterday I decided I needed some therapy....

So today I went to my local Walmart store and invested in some very pretty plants and flowers. Then I spent the afternoon getting my hands dirty in my yard. I must say, adding greenery and color improved my mood a lot!

Then I did something I haven't done in ages......I baked a cake! Not a cake from a boxed mix but a real, honest-to-goodness, made from scratch chocolate cake complete with chocolate sour cream frosting. I found this recipe in the current issue of Midwest Living magazine and decided t
o give it a try.

Of course my family was suspicious right away......

"What is that smell?"

"Who's having a birthday?"
"Did someone die?"
"Have a baby?"

I guess I need to treat my family to a "just because" cake more often!

It was truly a beautiful evening: sitting on the deck, eating our cake and enjoying the new flowers. Like I said, "what a difference a day makes!"

What a wonderful setting!

You're right! It is amazing what a difference a day can make. Just a bit of new perspective.

The cake looks good too.

Doesn't it do your heart good, when you can do something so little that brings so much joy?

Glad to hear this are lookin' up! And, you are right...doing something with your hands...often helps!!

Your cake looks YUMMY!!! I too often get those comments from my family. Especially when I make a FULL home cooked meal...they always ask, "who's coming for dinner?" Like I only really cook for company!! lol

Have a blessed day.

Glad you're enjoying a happier day today. Don't you find that when you take your focus off self, and do something for others your mood instantly improves? That's what usually helps me.

I don't know if I've EVER made a cake from scratch!!! I'm just not a kitchen person. Your cake looks fabulous!!! Does it count that I at least thought of my family today and PURCHASED strawberries and an angel food cake to have with supper tonight? MAYBE next time I'll consider baking some love into my meager offerings.

Have a wonderful day!
Love & prayers,
Joy

This is funny...I made a chocolate chip pie yesterday since friends were popping in....the other girls said, "you are SOO lucky your mom makes you cakes..." mine piped right up and said...."if you weren't here, there would be like OATMEAL on the counter."

the best was..."did someone die?" I laughed outloud!!

nothing like digging in the dirt and a homemade cake!
bet you felt better!!
hugs,
lori

You've inspired me...I want to get out and get some planting done. Too funny about the responses to your cake. I'm sure I'd get the same reaction here at my house.
