TSMS~~How Can I Keep From Singing?

One thing I love about my children is that they all have abilities and talents that seem to have come out of nowhere! Yes they may look like my husband or I or have some common interests, but somewhere along the line God gave them special and unique gifts that do not appear to be "hand me downs".

One of those "out of the blue" gifts is my 17 year
old son's singing voice. We first learned he could carry a tune when he was cast in his first grade musical. He sang the solo, "I'm Getting Married In The Morning" and if I could have chosen a moment to just go and be with the Lord that would have been it. It is one of the sweetest memories I have!!

Today he is going with a select group of kids from his high school choir to perform at the State Music Competition in Emporia, KS. He sang a solo for the "regional competition" but missed going on to State because he forgot a line in the s
ong (OOOPS). For anyone who watches American Idol, it was exactly like what happened to Brooke last week.

(Update: he just called and said the boys group has received a "1" rating (the best possible! They are now preparing to sing as a group of both boys and girls....)

I think this talent embarrasses him and he won't even admit he likes to sing. He is much more passionate and outspoken about playing baseball.

The funny thing is, it is the singing that comes naturally and the baseball has been a HUGE battle. His choir teacher raves about his ability but his baseball coach has been very negative and critical. He has never had a private voice lesson yet we have spent thousands of dollars over the years on baseball.

I'm not sure where I am going with all of this except to say that I want to be in tune with the talents and abilities God has given me. The more I chase after something else the more I neglect who I was made to be. I'm not saying my son shouldn't play baseball (that would NOT go over) but I do encourage him to use the voice God has blessed him with.

He did stand up and sing in the Church choir on Easter and people were shocked!!

"Who would know that Jake could sing?" That voice certainly didn't come from his parents....

PS> The "Chambers Group" of both boys and girls scored a 1 as well......

Yay! for Jake!:)
So true about our talents from God; I'm sorry to say that I have probably wasted much time in areas of my life that God just simply did not intend for me to ever be gifted at.:)

Have a lovely weekend!
God Bless,
Amy:)

Congratulations to everyone!
Kelley, I can so relate to this post. My 15 year old son who is currently working on his A.R.C.T. Solo Performers in Piano has truly been gifted. His Music Conservatory work is "blood, sweat and tears", but what he does with the Worship Band, and in school - on keyboard, trombone, etc...composing, arranging, playing by 'ear'...that IS GOD!

Just this week I said 'no' to a ministry position being asked of me as I just felt the Lord impresssing on my heart that time involved in this new area would take me away from pursuing the gifts He has planted in my heart.

May the Lord continue to use your son for His glory and may he be testimony of a life surrendered to Him.
Blessings,
Joy

God knew that Jake could sing! I hope that he continues to enjoy this "gift" that God has given him. It will be something he grows to treasure as he matures. Can you imagine him singing to his bride?

We all find our voices at one point or another. Some sing in tune...some as a resounding gong. The key? Finding the melody and staying on pitch. May Jake find his voice, both in the temporal as well as in the eternal as the days unfold.

What a handsome young man. You have reason to be proud!

Isn't it so exciting to think about what God has placed in our children and what He wants to do with those treasures to glorify His name?!?!?!

May each of our precious children surrender to Him fully and long to be in His perfect will! :)

Great song and post! Thanks!

Great post Kelley. I'm happy for your son and his choir. I'm praying for my children to find their hidden talents too.

My daughter got up in front of the church and belted out a beautiful song using Barlow Girl background and sang beautifully. We had no idea she could do that. She got up on a whim for the talent show at church. It brough tears to our eyes. God is so good.

I'm still not fully aware of what I am good at, but I'm going to start praying and that way, like you said, I'll use my time in a better way.

Happy Saturday, Kathi

Kelley, This is one of my current favorite songs. I had lots of errands to run today and I listened to it over and over in the car. I can't help but smile and rejoice thru it all. I'm so glad you shared this song with us today. How can we stop praising such a mighty God?!

Sounds like you have a lot to be proud of! I so agree with you. God has given each of different gifts and abilities. I pray I would use my talents (as simple as they might be) for God's glory.

Sounds like they are doing great at the competition!! What a handsome young man. All the girls will be swooning.

I was hoping the youtube video was going to be a clip of him singing so we could hear him too. :)

It sounds like the rough week ended pleasantly! Seeking His talents He has given us can sure be challenging though. Only though Him!
