A few years ago my family discovered a comedian named Brian Regan. We bought his DVD and it makes us all laugh till our sides hurt.
One of the routines he does is about the "Me Monster". Too often one of us gets so wrapped up in ourself that we turn into a "me monster". (Life is all about "ME, ME, ME.....")
The irony to me is that when we become so focused on ourselves we become the most unhappy because we are never able to have or be everything we desire on our own.
We will always seek more; enough is not a word in 0ur vocabulary.
We are threatened by or resentful of others.
And most of all, when we are seeking to live for self we are not in unity with God's plan for us and therefore we are unable to rest in the peace that comes only from allowing Him to be the Lord of our life.
So the next time you encounter a "me monster", or feel yourself becoming one, remember what Jesus had to say on the subject:
"For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." Matthew 23:12

Kelley, this guy was hilarious, but so true. We have a "Me Monster" at work that we dread to see coming. I did some self-evalutation and realized I could come off as being that way sometimes. I will be more aware of my words in conversation in the future because of your post, and remember this verse. Thank you for this life lesson!
Very comical post, yet so true. Loved the video!
It's not about ME (LOL),
Krista
I think I've heard of him but I'm unable to watch the video right now.
We just discussed that verse in our ladies study group. We are doing Beth Moore's "Living Free" and it talked about humility vs pride. One statement she said was that humility is not something we have until humbling is something we do. God talks a lot about the benefits of humility and the downfall of pride, huh? Guess we should listen and take heed of that wonderful advice.
I mentioned you on my blog post yesterday. I hope that's okay. I think my post was rather "weak" as I've not had quiet as many commenters. I guess I better stick to general subjects and not put it "my" personal story.
Love,
Paula
"But enough about me. Let's talk about you. What do YOU think of me?"
:-)
My boys watched that with me! T oo too funny! Thansk for that. I can top that...oops...sorry...will I never learn! LOL1 I stand guilty as charged!
Very funny.....yet sad..because it's SO true..in each and everyone of us at times.
Great post friend.
You ALWAYS brighten my day each time I visit.
Kim~
Thank you for the reminder that the "Me" Monster is very unbecoming and very unpleasing to God as well. This video was hysterical, yet true.
(This guy is sooo funny...have you ever seen the video on flying? It's laugh out loud funny!)
Kelley, my son and I just watched this video - tears are running down my face from laughing so hard!!!
There's a verse I'm thinking of right now - I think from the Psalms, that says, Not unto me, not unto me, but unto Your name give glory ...or close to that idea.
Thanks for the smile.

Kelley,
Once as I was intensely studying God's Word...and in between baskets of laundry (which NEVER gets done)...I was journaling some thoughts on 'yachad' (that's Hebrew for unity), the LORD put such a strong phrase in my spirit (the Hebrew-isms of it all is simply glorious):
"We are to work hard at becoming one - rather than becoming 'the one'."
bountiful blessings!
Our family LOVES Brian Regan! Boy, this is a funny, yet sad reality. Great reminder in this very memorable clip.
Blessings!
Tracy
Wait--I've got a BETTER video than this. It's about an American woman "taxi" driver .... This was really funy. Never seen him before.
Amen to that! Oh I wish the me monster would never show up in my body!! :)
It's not about me???? JK! I was letting my girls attitude come out for a second...sorry!1 Love the hammock-we have one but I haven't been in it for awhile...too busy. Enjoy your time!!

Kelly,
I'm posting here but it's about your blogpost on running!
My husband is a Marathon runner and of course he runs all the time.
He told me that is when he talks to GOD and for some reason I just couldn't wrap my mind around that.
I thought in my "holier than thou" moment that he would just rather be running than sitting down reading and praying.
Humbled...definitely not exalted here! He reads his Bible, but his prayer talks with GOD are on his feet and for at least an hour!
When was the last time I was on my knees or face down for an entire hour?
Thank you for the humbling. GOD needed me to get it.
Blessings,
Teri
This guy is so funny! I must admit I have the "Me Monster" sometimes. But, I will just have to say that my daughter has had the MEology since she became a teen. Something about teens ....they think everything is all about them. LOL Drama, drama, drama.
Thanks for the video and reminder.
Have a fabulous weekend!
Blessings,
Darlene
You are too funny! Love the video! :) I saw many truths in that video..some of them pointing back to me! Thanks for sharing!
Prayers and blessings,
Rebecca
That guy was hysterical. I love good, clean comedians. I am going to have to get a dvd.
Kelley, I'm always looking for funny Christian comedians. Thanks for this info.
Also, thank you for your encouragement that you left on my blog back in June. I'm sorry I am so late responding. I just added a new post to my blog today. I am taking the plunge and will be blogging more now. Your are welcome to visit me anytime.
God's Blessings to you and your beautiful family,
Nicole
Oh my goodness. This was hilarious...I have never seen him before. Sort of sad, too...um, yeah, I can see a lot of this monster in me, unfortunately.
OK, I just sat and watched him, he's GREAT!! I've seen him before and I didn't know his name!
Hey where can I buy his stuff?
I just read your other post too, (catching up you see!) Love your new way to relax, now I'll have to check into that myself.
Beats RUNNING any day!!
Have a blessed weekend my friend♥
I had never heard of him before. Too funny! The Me Monster can definitely be an ugly thing.
Oh man that was good. The me monster. Some of us act on it and others just wish we had the confidence to jump into a conversation and take over. We all want to be heard and understood that is true, but if everyone is talking about themselves...who is listening? Good post and good reminder. Thanks.
We LOVE us some Brian Regan in this house. We have seen him live a couple of times. He is so good.
Wow that was awesome Kelley... and for sure, have had a me monster chewing away. Hopefully confession is the first step in driving the abominable meugly away!
Thanks for sharing it... puts it in a new perspective to where you can actually "see" it in self!
